Curriculum

The Kona School is a blended learning center taking advantage of the most recent advancements in technology and instructional methods.  Blended learning is when a student receives a portion of their lessons through online delivery and has demonstrated tremendous results in helping students recover credits and make significant learning gains.  This method has also been shown to improve graduation rates, standardized test scores, and reduce the total cost of educating students.

The Kona School has partnered with Florida Virtual School (FLVS) to create a unique learning environment.  Our students are offered the widest variety of courses to choose from, including advanced and AP classes, from the leading online learning provider. Florida Virtual School is fully accredited by two major agencies: The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation.

To assist each student in meeting his or her individual educational goal is a fully accredited Learning Coach.  The Learning Coaches work directly with students in one-on-one learning, group sessions, tutoring, and helping the student manage their learning portfolio.

Our blended learning model is designed to teach for mastery of core skills while allowing learning coaches to differentiate instruction with each student, giving students the power to locate, evaluate and apply information meaningfully in real-world settings.
